A victory for Anwar Ibrahim while he walks away from possible jailing while the hard pressed authorities that wanted him out of the picture for now are crashing down with the taste of defeat, that is what most observers are saying to WFOL. Observers across the world are hailing the court decision to let Anwar Ibrahim walk free until his re-appearance in the court on September 10th as a moral victory for the Malay leader. It is a serious setback for the authorities claims some observers who sent messages to WFOL on the Anwar Ibrahim sodomy case. Others claim this was sufficient evidence that the judges would not be bent on accepting everything the authorities would want to pass on them. One observer said that at first there was the impression that the case would be similar to the 1998 sham accusations and the ensuing trial by media which ended in a massive fraud by the judiciary when Anwar was sent to jail. He added that the situation seems different today with the court by-passing the existing laws of the country which state a person accused of sodomy should be jailed since the offence is not bail able. Anwar freed and proceeding with his expected grand re-entry in Parliament with a victory in Permatang Pauh in Penang will be yet another blow to those Anwar accuses of conspiring against him. It is possible; an Indonesian observer said to WFOL, that there will be a crack in the ruling coalition or the United Malays National Organization (Umno) as the Prime Minister seems to be pursuing his agenda of change and reform. There has been a protracted battle within the Umno, between old guards and stalwarts like Tun Mahathir and the Mubarak group, to jail Anwar indefinitely but the PM seem to be against the idea. This might bring more trouble for the embattled and outgoing Prime Minister who is seen as protecting Anwar. This has never happened before in Malaysia where a ruling leader of the Umno protects another leader who had fallen out with the party in the past and who is doing everything to bring down the party from power, said the Indonesian observer.
In the past, every single leader who falls out with the Umno has either disappeared in history or was rejected totally by the masses. Anwar is setting precedence over precedence and this is going to crack the ruling coalition in the short or the long run, he added. Anwar’s long battle with the Umno and the ruling coalition of Malaysia is reminiscent of the battle led by former Umno leaders, including Menteri Besar Harun Idriss who was jailed for corrupt practices. Umno too has a long history of struggling with its leaders such as the founder of the party himself Onn Jafar who was forced to resign after he proposed to enlarge the party’s base by opening the doors to all Muslims rather to Malays only. However, it appears that Anwar is bent on defeating the ‘jinx’ that has scourged the former Umno stalwarts and is going to reverse the situation in his and in the people’s favor, WFOL was told. It also exposes the difference of style in the leadership of the country and of the party with Abdullah Badawi proving to be an ardent defender of what is right and just. The recent speeches of the PM regarding the truth and the just causes of the people are not to be discarded as mere speeches, said another observer. He said the fact that Anwar can walk free – which is without precedence in the country – is indicative that Malaysia under Badawi is heading for major changes soon. He added that Anwar must make the maximum of this situation and help the PM if possible in his push for reforms in Malaysia.

Here's why... Gold manias begin when investors flee real estate, currencies, bonds, and stocks because their prospects are so bleak. We're close to that right now.

We publish this opinion article from the Monday Morning newspaper published in Beirut, Lebanon. Article is written by Gwynne Dyer.
Very few people in Jakarta commented on the 'rising' sentiments towards the bombers but deep inside many think the bombers – especially Imam Samudra – went to the extent of bombing Bali due to their rigid beliefs regarding 'Maksyat' or illicit life styles.

The American constitution, the basis of democracy in the USA is indeed a good example of how a democratic system can be hijacked by a group of people with an evil agenda. Democracy is violated in Kenya too where Kenya's opposition movement, which is challenging the election in December that Kenya's president, Mwai Kibaki, narrowly won. In Palestine, the legitimate government is now being suffocated...What democracy is it?
