The American constitution, the basis of democracy in the USA is indeed a good example of how a democratic system can be hijacked by a group of people with an evil agenda. Democracy is violated in Kenya too where Kenya's opposition movement, which is challenging the election in December that Kenya's president, Mwai Kibaki, narrowly won. In Palestine, the legitimate government is now being suffocated...What democracy is it? ![]() IHT Photo - Democracy in Action From Palestine to Nairobi, the world is witnessing the ugliness of democratic systems which is taunted as the best system of governance by the West. Palestine fell into chaos after its 'democratically' elected government composed of the Hamas was virtually overthrown by the U.S., Israel and the U.N. Kenya is today reeling with violence and killings that has not been seen in the country for decades. It is the result of a democratic election that ended badly for the system. The west is battling Islamic elements across the world to force Muslims to succumb to the rule of democracy but the question remains whether democracy is really the holy grail for the entire world?' After 200 years of existence, democracy is turning into a terrible experience for people in Palestine where a perfectly elected government was overthrown after a collusion between Washington, Tel Aviv and the U.N. The collusion is still apparent in the foreclosure imposed on Gaza, the strip where the Hamas, the victors in the January 2007 elections in Palestine, is in control. Democracy is violated in Kenya too where Kenya's opposition movement, which is challenging the election in December that Kenya's president, Mwai Kibaki, narrowly won. Raila Amolo Odinga, opposition leader who lost to Kibaki in December is altogether adamant. He is trying to topple the President and change the course in Kenya but things has gone out of control. Thousands are being killed while the west sits and watch. This is the type of 'democracy' the west is trying to impose on the world, a democratic system where the west will remain silent when Africans, like in Rwanda and Liberia in the past, tear their country apart. Kenyans are now literally ripping their country apart, uprooting miles of railroad tracks, chopping down telephone poles, burning government offices and looting schools, wrote the International Herald Tribune but nothing is said on how the west can eliminate such problems in new democracies. Kenya was ruled single handedly by Daniel Arap Moi was the President of Kenya from 1978 until 2002. Thus when Kenyatta died on August 22, 1978, Moi became president and took the oath of office. He was popular, with widespread support all over the country. He toured the country and came into contact with the people everywhere. Moi was constitutionally barred from running in the 2002 presidential elections. Some of his supporters floated the idea of amending the constitution to allow him to run for a third term, but Moi preferred to retire, choosing Uhuru Kenyatta, the son of Kenya's first President, as his successor. Mwai Kibaki, was elected President by a two to one majority over Kenyatta, which was confirmed on December 29, 2002. Moi now lives in retirement, largely shunned by the current political establishment, but widely popular with the masses, his presence never failing to quickly gather a crowd, wrote Wikipedia on Arab Moi. The former president could be the answer to the problems that Kenya is now facing but no one seem to be willing to bring back a former President from retirement. The reason is that the 'west' want democracy to work in Kenya and elswhere but what democracy is it? It is the democracy that allows the 'friends' of the west to remain in power like in Palestine, Egypt, Kenya and in the 1980's Algeria. The story of Algeria's democratic collapse is synonymous with the failure of democracy in many parts of the world. Democracy is probably good for the west but it may not be the system that could be applied without failure in other parts of the world. The Front De Salut Islamic (FIS) won the elections in 1991 but what happened next was the death of democracy in Algeria. The party won a majority of the seats contested in local elections in 1990 and most of the seats in the National Assembly in the first round of balloting in 1991. The government canceled the second round, however, and arrested many of the group's leaders. The FIS and more extreme Islamist groups afterward waged a protracted guerrilla war. As mentioned earlier, the American Constitution is only 200 years old but that is a long time for a constitution to survive. It had its amendments and its hard times but it had its glorious days too. However, it failed to withstand time and today in 2008, the American constitution has been corroded and is corrupted. The American constitution, the basis of democracy in the USA is indeed a good example of how a democratic system can be hijacked by a group of people with an evil agenda. The Holy Constitution of the Muslims, the Al-Quraan is 1429 years old. However, it survived centuries without any changes in its rules and regulations. Perhaps it is the best system of governance for the Muslims who want to abide to the system and to submit to the rule of Allah. There should not be any reasons for the west to prevent Islam from being imposed as the rule of law, the system of governance for Muslims who does not refuse the Quraan, the Holy book of the Musilms, as their constitution.
