U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama says Iraqis want an "aspirational timeline" for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. However, sources say Obama may not live up to his promises if he is elected President of the United States in November this year.
Senator Obama also says Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki stated his hope that "U.S. combat forces could be out of Iraq in 2010." Obama made the comments in a joint statement with Republican Senator Chuck Hagel and Democratic Senator Jack Reed following their fact-finding visit to Iraq on Monday. The senators acknowledged violence in Iraq is down significantly, but said political and economic development continues to lag. But observers believe Obama will fall into a trap that could lead to more wars in iraq and in Afghanistan. His promise of more wars in the former Taliban controlled nation is indicative that he may be yet another warmonger in the making. "Promises are one thing and when you hold the presidential mantle, it is another thing to execute the promises made during a General Elections campaign," said an observer to WFOL. He added that in the past, Richard Nixon won the presidency on the promise that he will end the war in Vietnam but he actually extended it to Cambodia and tried to win the war in Vietnam. He ended the war after a humiliating defeat by the US army in Vietnam. "The same thing may happen to Barack Obama. What the Iraqis need from him and from John McCain is a written agreement that there will be formal and total withdrawal of US forces from the Muslim country during their term," "That is as soon as they take power the withdrawal must start. Otherwise, it will be a waiting game and more killings with the US becoming relunctant to let go of the big prize that Iraq is to them," said the observer. Earlier, Iraqi government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said Baghdad hopes foreign combat troops will withdraw from Iraq in 2010, but stopped short of setting any fixed deadline. Republican U.S. presidential candidate John McCain said Monday that Obama was wrong to oppose the U.S. troop surge in Iraq that began last year. Senator McCain said the U.S. is winning the war in Iraq and more troops will be able to come home as conditions improve. Obama's first visit to Iraq in two years is part of an international tour by the U.S. presidential hopeful. He also plans to visit Israel and Jordan during his Middle East tour, before moving on to Europe. In Iraq, Obama held separate meetings with Prime Minister Maliki, President Jalal Talabani and Vice President Tariq al-Hashemi. Hashemi said, after meeting Obama, Iraq wants to schedule the withdrawal of foreign troops. But, Hashemi said any such timetable would depend on the training of Iraqi security forces and Iraq's security situation. Dabbagh said Obama did not discuss his proposed withdrawal timetable with Prime Minister Maliki. In Washington, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino reiterated the Bush administration's opposition to a deadline for pulling out troops. Perino also said U.S.-Iraqi negotiations on a long-term security pact will continue beyond an original deadline of July 31.

A gold mania could happen.
Here's why... Gold manias begin when investors flee real estate, currencies, bonds, and stocks because their prospects are so bleak. We're close to that right now.

Very few people in Jakarta commented on the 'rising' sentiments towards the bombers but deep inside many think the bombers – especially Imam Samudra – went to the extent of bombing Bali due to their rigid beliefs regarding 'Maksyat' or illicit life styles.

The American constitution, the basis of democracy in the USA is indeed a good example of how a democratic system can be hijacked by a group of people with an evil agenda. Democracy is violated in Kenya too where Kenya's opposition movement, which is challenging the election in December that Kenya's president, Mwai Kibaki, narrowly won. In Palestine, the legitimate government is now being suffocated...What democracy is it?
