Having rented a room in the compound where the 5 years old girl was living, the man was acquainted with the family of the victim. It was during a week day when the ‘uncle’ had called the girl named Aisha to offer her some sweets. Aisha was wearing gold bangles given to her by her father, Hassen Mia.

Hassen Mia was a boatman in the ports of Port Louis, working with the Blyth Smith company – a huge company in those days in Mauritius. He had to leave his job for some time to attend the court hearing of the robbery of his daughter’s jewelry by a man he trusted.

Many people will surely say that sodomy has nothing to do with robbery but then what happened in the court will be very significant indeed.

The defense attorney of the suspect had pleaded with the Judge not to proceed with the case since the victim was only 5 years old and the court could not take the words of an infant as evidence.

However, the British Judge who was posted in the St-Pierre region in the Moka District of Mauritius – a district where the most beautiful greeneries can be found on the Indian Ocean Island – ruled that Aisha was a reliable witness and that children of 5 would not lie.

He however insisted the court will have to decide on the evidence the prosecution would bring forward. Though Aisha pointed out in court who the robber was, which was denied by the accused indeed, the Judge said he had to rule the case dismiss due to the fact that the police and the prosecutors could not find the stolen items.

Before the court was adjourned, Hassan Mia asked the Judge to allow him to get the accused to swear on the Quraan whether he stole the jewels or not. The accused lawyers wanted to ridicule the statement by Hassan Mia but the Judge decided that it was fair for Muslims to use the Holy Al-Quraan to swear on it since it was their religious instrument.

The Judge then ordered the accused to swear on the Holy book. He did so by saying that he never stole the jewels and that he was saying the truth and nothing but the truth.

In Malaysia, Saiful did the same but he went to a Masjid and swore on the Holy book in all assurance that he was sodomized by Anwar Ibrahim. The Mufti of Perlis Dr Asri Zainul Abidin expressed his shock that Saiful had proceeded with his challenge to swear on the Quraan.

He said that though it was a brave act, Saiful had in fact taken a great risk that would have huge consequences in his life.

Hassen Mia, who later became respected member of the society with his capacity as an Ustaz in Islamic healing, had said the same thing to the accused in his case versus Aisha. Hassen Mia had said in 1945 that the consequences of the actions by the accused who swore on the Holy Al-Quraan that he did not steal the jewels will be seen sooner or later. He added that it will be showed to the society how a lie on the Holy Quraan in public can have damaging and at times life threatening effects.

This is such because it is not a game – political or religious – to swear on the Holy book that Muslims believe is directly from Allah, the Creator. It is also believed in some Muslim societies that the ‘wrath’ of such lies and denials sworn on the Holy Al—Quraan can be of the worst type.

The Mufti of Perlis has also warned Saiful that his actions would have the most unsuspicious consequences on his life in the short or long run, this if it is a lie that Saiful said when he swore on the Holy Al-Quraan.

If he said the truth, Saiful will be safe but if he lied, sooner or later he will get the signs of the wrath that can hit him and damage him eternally, physically or morally.

Not to keep the readers guessing, it is good to note that the accused was indeed visited by the curse of the Holy Al-Quraan and spent the next ten years of his life bed ridden, living with his sister. He died after a long struggle against an unknown illness that could not be cured after he was hit by a stroke that paralyzed his right arm, leg and face a few months after he swore on the Holy Al-Quraan.

This is a true story and though it happened a long time ago, it was narrated to me by Aisha and I did reconfirm the story with Aisha Binti Hassan Mia when I visited Mauritius in July 2007. Aisha is alive and well.

This is a true story that took place in 1945. The story takes significance with the high profile case involving Anwar Ibrahim and a drop-out Saiful Bukhari who accused the former Deputy Prime Minister of sodomizing him. Saiful has gone very far in swearing on the Holy book of Islam, the Al-Quraan.

However, according to Hassen Mia, there was no need for Aisha to swear on the Quraan too since the wrong party was the accused in that case. It is then apparent that Anwar Ibrahim does not have to swear on the Holy Al-Quraan but he can do so if he wishes to or he can wait for the harsh repercussions to befall his accuser.

Anwar should swear on Quraan

to my openion, Anwar should swear on Quraan in the court if he is inocent at all. It reminds me of a drug edict who was convicted and send to rehabilitation centre. After three years he was released and joined back to the society again. But he was cought again and send back to where he belonged for his bad habit or ediction, as you may say. Even though there was no conspiracy this guy was charged again and again for the same offence he was charged three years back. You got my point.
Habit which non of us can change, Anwar was charged once, he cried foul, but again for the same offence he is charged, still he is crying foul.Think of Rock Hudson, having wife and being famous actor still he could not help him go for young man for sex.
Again Anwar walked out from the parliment where the govt., intends to pass the DNA bill, WHY? Why he is so afraid of if he is inocent. He should be forced to give in to DNA test and also should swear in the court, if it really is political motivated that he is crying to cover his crime of bad ediction. There are many instances that we have seen, a edict is an edict, their family supports and cares for them, but when they come across their old habit, because of desire he forgets his family love but chooses that moment of desire and lust.
A man of vision is a great man, but a man of ambition are dangerous to themself and to the society, because they can give in to any thing to achive for them self what ever way they want, even to the cost of their family and country as whole.
Anwar, as i look at it, is very ambitious to get the PM, even if needed to bribe or corrupting the BN MP's to betray their people who voted them as a BN candidate, he can do any thing to get what he wants to get. He is not at all thinking of the people and the country at all.
He should not be allowed to creat trouble in this beautiful country of Malaysia by corrupting the society as so far he has done nothing for the country.

Dear Rafiq (we know that is not your name), thanks for your input. Interesting views that sound the official government views. It is refreshing to see pro-BN supporters visiting us and commenting. Welcome.

However, lets tell these points you made to the 66% odd people in Permatang Pauh who drove Anwar back to Parliament after a campaign that touched on all the issues you mentioned here. They already replied massively and it is by a large margin of 16000 votes that they said 'We want Anwar'.

Unfortunately we have to wait and see what happens next in Malaysia, the beautiful country like you said.
