Guantanamo, Baigram and other jails (secret ones where Muslims are being tortured) are illegal prisons and should be dismantled. The U.S. has a moral responsibility to respect its own democratic principles. It has to either charge them in normal courts or free them.

If there are special prayers to be said for this occasion, they would be about having a better year indeed. The Muslims will also recite the following (see graphic below):

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic, Hijrah calendar. It is one of the four sanctified months about which Allah says, “The number of months in the sight of Allah are twelve (in a year). So ordained by Him the day He created the heavens and the earth; Of them four are sacred: That is the right religion. So wrong not yourselves therein.” (At-Tawbah: 36
It is known that one of these four months is the month of Muharram. It is also said that the actions of the Muslims in these four months will reflect their doings in the rest of the Muslim year.

Special thoughts for the Muslim guys and ladies who are not free to celebrate the Muslim New Year 1429. Many of them are in jails in Guantanamo, Baigram (Afghanistan) and in Iraq. They are being held for their beliefs rather than for their actions against the U.S.A

Many people believe they are terrorists hence they should be jailed. However, they are being suspected by the U.S. of acts of terror though in reality many of those jailed in these infamous prisons had nothing to do with 911.

One of the reasons constantly mentioned by the U.S. for its jailing of Muslims is that they might turn violent and attack U.S. interests if they are freed. This too is anti-democratic as it is pre-emptively withholding the rights of people who should be free by violating these rights.

This is an international offence and it deserves to be criticized vehemently. At WFOL we condemn the mistreatment of Muslims by Muslims and by the U.S. or any other governments.

The governments of the Islamic world must also take heed of what the Prophet of Islam has said. If they continue to suppress their opponents (by jailing them and by keeping them away from the courts) this will reflect on these governments actions for the rest of the Muslim year.

Fasting in Muharram

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is reported to have said, “The best of fasts besides the month of Ramadan is the fast during Allah’s month of Muharram and the best of prayer besides the obligatory prayers is the Tahajjud prayer.”

The 10th Day of Muharram known as the day of `Ashura’, is a very significant day in the Islamic calendar. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, has exhorted the Ummah to fast on this day. He is reported to have said, “Fasting the day of `Ashura’, I hope that Allah will accept it as expiation for the previous year.” (Reported by Muslim)
