Ramadan Mubarak

What is wrong with the Muslims?

It is Ramadan again, the holy month of fasting and prayers yet the Muslim world is still in turmoil. Its leaders are still in search of a solution to the problems that the Muslims are facing. Islam, the faith of the Muslims is still under threat from within and from outside but Islam will survive while it is not sure whether the Muslims – as we know them today – will survive these threats and direct attacks!

With the beginning of Ramadan as a world wide event where Muslims across the world will start the one month long fasting duties, let us take a look at what is wrong with the Muslims. It is certain that Islam is perfect and that the faith itself has little to suffer from the upheavals that the world is witnessing.

The rise of the new leaders in the West with the aim of eliminating Islam is not new and Islam has in fact survived all the trials and dangers that were laid on its path for centuries now. However, the Muslims are not guaranteed the same survival strength and apparently in this current world, the Muslims are far more vulnerable than they were before.

Centuries ago the West saw the birth of leaders who wanted only one thing: The elimination of Islam from the surface of the earth. They failed lamentably and Islam co-existed with Christianity for several centuries until the arrival of the leaders like George W. Bush, Tony Blair and John Howard of Australia. They wanted the complete defacing and destruction of the original Islam and they planned its replacement with a twisted version of Islam.

They have succeeded in many ways as earlier articles in World Futures would have showed to the readers. Throughout the ages, the Muslims lost their fame and their glitter. They lost their originality too in the process and this led to the rise of a new form of civilization in the Western world. A civilization that allows all kinds of obscenity, blasphemy and moral decadence that is not allowed in Islam. This did not go down well with the new leaders of the western world and they planned and plotted and they found the weaknesses of the Muslims.

Once they found the weaknesses of the Muslims, they started to pillage on the Muslim world using weapons of mass destruction, terrorism and lately oil and gas as the excuses for the pillage. They killed and maimed millions of Muslims in Afghanistan, Iraq and allowed the murder of millions more in the Balkans (in a recent past) and the Middle East altogether. They also allowed the murder of innocent civilians in Pakistan and other Muslim countries that are under their indirect control thanks to the presence of their ‘agents’ who serves as Presidents, Prime Ministers or Kings.

Well, we can go on and on in a bravado of criticism of the non-Muslims and we can also accuse them of all the ills that affects the ‘Islamic world’. We can blame them for all the sickness and crimes and murders but does that diminish the role of the Muslims in what is happening to them across the world?

Just look around and one will see that in United Arab Emirates (UAE) for example, a businessman or a non-resident who wishes to establish in that country will have to fork at least US25000 to be able to get residence permits and work permits including the creation of a company and the payment of sponsorship fees to a local. The UAE where Dubai is major city – it can be considered to be the capital city – is a very nation and yet it is run in a purely capitalistic manner. Its rules and regulations has nothing or very little to do with Islam as it has seemingly abandoned Islam as the principle and the guidance with which it is supposed (as a Muslim majority nation) to run its affairs.

Malaysia is yet another country where things are not as it seems on paper despite the various claims by the leaders of the country. The authorities claims it is an Islamic state but if it is so then it is one where Islam is also not used as the guiding principle or as the core policies of the country. The reason given is that the country is not 100 percent Muslim hence it has to devise policies that are not directly linked to Islam. This already shows that Malaysia will never become the leading nation in the Muslim world unless; perhaps the entire Muslim world devises plans and policies that are not in conformity with Islamic values.

A mafia is running most of the Muslim nations and they are either sponsored by the United States and its allies or are simply too subversive to be run over like the U.S. army did in Iraq. Pakistan is run by a mafia organization that is now controlling the core of the armed forces, used to kill Muslims who rebels against the mafia organization. In Malaysia the opposition parties have accused the regime and the police of being trigger happy as the police shot at demonstrators in the state of Terengganu. The rule of law versus the voice of the people was at stake it seems and it did not help anyone to see the people fight the police either. Is it a new age dawning across the Muslim world a few days after the release of a tape purported to be that of Osama Bin Laden?

From Palestine – where yet another mafia has taken over from an elected regime – to Afghanistan where a mafia regime is in place to represent the interest of the U.S., the Islamic world is starting Ramadan, a holy month of sacrifices and piety with a very stormy sky.

For once, it is good to say that the Muslims are not free to voice their opinions and this is because the vast majority of the Muslims are complacent and are afraid of the consequences. This silent majority has turned into chicken that are bound to be slaughtered if they speak too much as they are trained and taught to do the chicken dance!

Muslims are also afraid of helping each other, fearing that one or the other may be a terror suspect and that would involve a whole lot of unwanted focus. The Mafioso has taken over and they are assisted, helped and even guided by Washington. If that is what 911 was made of, then with consistency and great professionalism, the plotters and planners of evil doing have succeeded. They have succeeded in turning the Muslims into a useless lot that can only follow the deeds (misdeeds mostly) of their leaders.

Can we continually accuse the non-Muslim world in its entirety for the gross unfairness that is seen across the Muslim world? I would beg to disagree and I have this to say about the non-Muslim world:

The non-Muslim world has produced – along the many centuries of history – a host of people who have done well for humanity and who has tolerated the vagaries of the Muslims in many ways. Has the Muslims tolerated the non-Muslims as Islam calls upon them to do so? Has the Muslims who claims they belong to the ‘Islamic World’ done better than the many non-Muslims who have either embraced Islam fully or accepted the Muslims entirely within their communities and in their midst and this in the name of humanity and for the sake of communal peace and freedom of choices?

In some Muslim countries non-Muslims are allowed to invest and even establish their homes but this is solely done in a bid to gain the much needed cash investments in foreign currency from the foreign nationals. It has little to do with inter-religious or inter-faith exchanges. It’s a capitalist way of doing business that is practiced in those Muslim nations that claim to be open to all and free for all.

What has the Muslim world given to the rest of the world since 911? Albeit a host of criticism and a larger show of hatred against the non-Muslims in a gross generalization, the Muslims have offered little to the rest of the world. Malaysia did come out with a short of brilliant idea of creating a new form of Islamic credentials with its ‘Islam Hadari’ or ‘Civilization Islam’ but it kaputed right out of the box. Firstly because by adding ‘Hadari’ with Islam it sounded like a new form of Islam was being introduced and it was not well received by a vast majority of the Muslims. Not because the Muslims do not believe in civilization Islam but because Islam is a civilization that has given too much to the world for it be tagged as Hadari. It sounded more like a new concept of Islam and it has been rejected by a large majority of the Malaysian Muslims altogether.

Some officials have supported the idea in foreign countries but the streets – which represent the true will of the people – have simply refused to accept it and Malaysia failed to bridge the gap between the West and the Muslims.

Anwar Ibrahim, Yusuf Islam and King Abdullah of Jordan all took the challenge of ‘representing’ Islam and of injecting a new light of Islam to the West. They failed and they will fail like Malaysia failed because they are all wrong. They failed to understand – and yet they are Muslims – that Islam is not wrong, there is nothing wrong with Islam. They failed to grab the reality of the Muslims and they failed to understand that the Muslims are wrong! It is not Islam that is to be blamed for the ills that affected the Muslim world but it is the Muslims that are to be blamed for their foolish adaptations of life and politics that runs far away from Islamic principles.

Most of the Muslim world is imbued in self pity since 911 but before that it was involved in greed and an extensive abuse of power by the authorities against the poor Muslim populace. Rich Muslims were amassing more money and gold and were fighting for higher positions in the Muslim world while the poor remained poor or became poorer. This is not what Islam taught the Muslims to follow but they did follow such principles. It led to 911 and before that to the terrible anti-Muslim massacres in Myanmar, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo. It also led to the abuse of freedoms and civil rights in most Muslim states recognized by the United Nations.

In the aftermath of 911, the Muslim world is not doing the right thing and there is much more abuse with the creeping capitalism in nations likes Malaysia, Pakistan, the UAE and soon Saudi Arabia! What is wrong with the Muslims? The thing is that Islam is not responsible nor is it to be judged or accused for the sins and mistakes made by the Muslims. Why this is so? Simply because Islam is holy but the Muslims are not! Muslim countries do not respect human rights and they do not even respect the freedom of speech and freedom of expression or of information by the people. That is what separates the Muslims from the true Islam, the Islam that is still accepted and respected by many in the West!

A WF EXCLUSIVE: It is the Occupation, stupid
The writer is a former Secretary Interior. This is an exclusive article for WorldFutures. Pakistan: Nov 2008 =

US President-elect in his victory speech bracketed financial crisis with the two wars to define crucial challenges calling for immediate action on his part. This reflects his sagacity which manifests his worldview etc. It is an open secret that while Iraq is comparatively quiet, thanks to Gen Petraeus’ initiatives, Afghanistan has become a quagmire for US. The current Administration, which exploited the fear-complex provoked by 9/11, remains bogged down. While maintaining hostile posturing and invoking EU’ bigger deployment of troops, the increasing casualties appear to have brought in the Saudi King to ingratiate the Taliban.

MiddleEast Conflict
US Antiballistic missile in Israel a world threat
The real threat is what motivated the US to install such systems in Israel. Does it intend to use Israel as stepping stone to launch 'conquests' in the Middle East and prevent the future natural 'democratic' processes from operating, such as in Palestine where the Hamas won an elections but was 'ousted' in a US sponsored and Israeli supported Coup?
Islam
The Haj. a unique pilgrimage
The Haj season is here. It is a unique pilgrimage with various fascets and all of them are as amazing and as mystical as it can get. Muslims performs the Haj at least once in their lifetime. It is one of the five pillars of Islam and some 2 to 3 million Muslims will be at Makka for the Haj.

Image Analysis: The War in Afghanistan and Pakistan
History also bears out that the Afghans can’t tolerate ‘occupation’. No wonder since 2006 the Taliban have been on the rampage. Even Kabul remains tentatively safe. During my last visit home to Peshawar, I was met by a few Afghans who told me of the reign of terror prevailing in Jalalabad, Paktia and Kabul etc as the state machinery/ foreign forces   could not cope with prevailing mayhem. The spill-over effect of Afghan ‘insurgency’ is   widely felt in Pakistan; more so in NWFP/ Baluchistan. History and geography combine to create challenges which the elected Govt and its armed forces have to face daily.

The Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has received information that Dr. Afia Siddiqui, was arrested along with her three children by a Pakistani intelligence agency in early 2003 and has been missing since then. American and Pakistani intelligence agencies confirmed that she had been arrested in connection with Al-Qaeda, the terrorist organisation run by Osama Bin Laden. However, later both agencies denied that she had been arrested. Dr. Afia's whereabouts remain unknown but it is suspected that she is being held in an American detention centre.

From Hamas to Kenya, roughing up democracy

The American constitution, the basis of democracy in the USA is indeed a good example of how a democratic system can be hijacked by a group of people with an evil agenda. Democracy is violated in Kenya too where Kenya's opposition movement, which is challenging the election in December that Kenya's president, Mwai Kibaki, narrowly won. In Palestine, the legitimate government is now being suffocated...What democracy is it?
