Interacting with promoters of the anti-hadith movement in Kuala Lumpur lead the editors of World Futures to understand the frame of their mind. They believe the hadiths of the Prophet of Islam were not revealed by Allah hence they can be dismissed. They also believe, which is the core of their arguments, that the holy book of Islam the Al-Quraan is complete by itself.

There is an increase in support for anti-hadith arguments in Malaysia. This trend is spreading to Muslims who are influenced by western values and feels they owe the west some justice. The promoters of the anti-hadith society (as it is called in Malaysia) are pushing an agenda for change in the Islamic thinking of the Muslim population of the South East Asian nation. They are aided by non-Muslims (local and foreign) who want to see a sea of change in the mental and fundamental reasoning of Muslims. World Futures On Line analyzes the impact of the anti-hadith society in Malaysia.
What is the anti-hadith society It is a group that was living in almost total darkness during thnicee years of Tun Mahathir Mohamad as Prime Minister of Malaysia. They feared crackdown against their ideologies and were working behind the scene, underground waiting for the appropriate moment to come out in the open. Since the year 2003, the year that Mahathir stepped down as Malaysian PM, they have become more tantalized about their ideologies and mostly, their visceral hatred for the traditions of the Prophet of Islam. However, due to a lack of decision from the top at government level, the anti-hadith society is still lurking in the dark, fearing reprisal from the majority pro-hadith society they live in. They claim they will be harassed or even jailed if they come out in the open to show their true physical self. The movement was imported into Malaysia since the country's independence and was allowed to survive by the successive regimes that took the helm in the country. The movement tried to make a push during Mahathir's reign with the publication of the translation of the Quraan without the usual Arabic text. This book was banned by the Pusat Islam and the anti-hadith group went underground for fear of being caught by what is called Uncle ISA in Malaysia. "There is no need for additional explanations. The Quraan is complete and the Hadiths are interpretations from various people and can be dismissed," said a member of the anti-hadith movement to the editor of World Futures in 1999. When asked why he did not pursue his aim at eliminating the hadiths as reference on the life of the Prophet of Islam in Malaysia, he said he feared the draconian laws in the country would be used against him and the members of his group. Of south Indian origin, the businessman was accompanied by some gang members of the anti-hadith group. They were all southern Indian men and they voiced the same fear of being captured and sent into oblivion under the Internal Security Act (ISA) - which is a political tool used by the Mahathir regime to curb on his opponents. The society is well structured, with a leader who holds firm on his grounds and dismisses all talks of reconsidering the views of the group against the hadith of the Prophet. The movement uses strategies that are based on deceit. The Al-Quraan, which the anti-hadith movement members uphold as the only book for Muslims, says in many places that deceit is a satanic way and those using deceit to deceive the people are followers of satan. The anti-hadith movement will do well to prove itself and its good will before it is too late for it to press its views openly. The movement is not against the fact that the hadiths of the prophet exists but it feels that since many of the hadiths are misleading and confusing, there was the need to eliminate the hadiths and concentrate purely on the verses of the Holy Al-Quraan. He did not dismiss the fact that in Islam one needs a scholar or guru (ustaz) who will act as guide to those who want to learn more about the meaning of the verses of the Holy Al-Quraan. He said he was the leader, or the Amir of the group and hence his views was the views that were admitted by the anti-hadith society. In reality, the Holy Quraan is indeed complete by itself. This is supported by many ahli'l bayt personalities. In the past, members of the Islamic ulema in India and Pakistan did insist that the Quraan was in fact complete. "There is only one book that matters and it is the Holy Quraan. Read it and understand it and if you do not understand it, seek advise from the ustaz," said an alim (learned members of the Muslim ulema) to his students in the Island of Mauritius. He added that there was indeed the need to explain certain aspects of the Quraan and the ustaz would know how to do that. When asked about the Hadiths, the alim said they were additional books of reference that were useful to understand the intricate nature of the verses of the holy Al-Quraan. This was in fact the views of generations of alim, ustaz and ustazah who forms part of the huge college of Muslim ulema world wide. It has been the views of the ulema in Malaysia for generations even for centuries. Muslims are warned that they are not to interpret the verses of the Quraan without proper advice from the Ulema. The following are the guidelines that should be taken into consideration when discussion on the Al-Quraan and on Islam is held: 1. There will be no expression of personal opinions. Only the opinion of the Quraan should be agreed upon 2. There should be a member of the ulema or an ustaz (an alim some would call it) whenever a group of Muslims debates on the Al-Quraan and Islam. 3. The final guidance of the member of the ulema should be agreed upon by all parties in the discussion in order to prevent chaos, anger and disputes that are not productive. There are other guidelines that should be followed and some of the main guidelines are to be found in hadiths of the Prophet of Islam. They are valid until today and they are to be used in order to contain any disparaging attitudes by the debaters. In the current debate in Malaysia, which is being held under the protection of the anonymity the Internet offers to people, the anti-hadith society is taking full swing against the views of its opponents and is refusing to debate according to the rules set by Islam, by the Al-Quraan itself. The Al-Quraan urges Muslims not to go against the words of Allah and to obey the leadership of the Prophet of Islam. His leadership is also based on reference work such as the Hadiths and the Qiya and the Fiqhs of his followers. Indeed the Holy Al-Quraan is the best of books it is also the final word of Allah yet not every single Muslims can understand the secrecy and the mystery as well as the intricacies of the verses of the Al-Quraan. There is the express need to have a learned scholar from a high institution of Islamic learning to settle the scores among the debaters. The anti-hadith movement of Malaysia, by refusing to come in the open to have discussions the Islamic way, is only giving credence to the numerous ayats or verses of the Al-Quraan that warns against those who strays. They will argue that they are afraid of the ISA and possible repression from people and the regime in power. Nevertheless, if there was only the truth and nothing but the truth in the arguments of the promoters of the anti-hadith movement, they would not be hiding behind pseudonyms to pursue their agenda. Rebelling against the established norms that has been used to consolidate the Islamic society world wide will only bring reprisal by the Creator. Belief in the Hadiths - at least the hadiths called the true hadiths - is essential to understand the mindset, the morals, and the leadership of the Prophet of Islam. The hadiths are in fact a tribute more than an insult to the holy Al-Quraan. Dismissing them totally will be an insult to the memories of the Rasulullah. As it was written on World Futures before, the Al-Quraan is in fact the constitution of the Muslims. The Hadiths are the by-laws and rules and regulations and way of life of the leader of Islam who enforced the constitution of Islam on the Muslims as a united ummah. Forcefully attempting to bend the mind set of the Muslims in Malaysia and hiding behind proxy servers by doing so will not help the cause of the anti-hadiths movement. It will only make its case, worst. Its promoters are altogether using vile and un-Islamic ethics in responses to the pro-hadith Muslims who are challenging what they call, the pro-western twisted minds. This is not the way to enhance debates on Islam and on the Hadiths. The Prophet of Islam himself is known to have spent more time during the night, explaining the hadiths or the way he does things to his followers. The hadiths of the Prophet of Islam are not the same as the history books of how the leaders of the West or of any other civilizations administered their nations. These stories are not to be found in the constitutions of the countries of modern times. The lives and times of these leaders are explained to the people of the future thanks to the numerous history books that reveals the traditions of the nations and of the leaders who once headed them. The same goes with Islam and its prophet Muhammad (May Peace Be Upon Him). The Muslims of future generations needed their own history books on how Muhammad struggled and how he had striven and what were the reactions, thoughts and decisions of his followers, opponents and foes during his time. These are not essentially in the Quraan as the Quraan deals with the words of Allah as it has been revealed to the Prophet. The hadiths revealed by Aisha (R.A) the last wife of the Prophet are perfect examples of what is being explained here. She had a sharp mind, which was very picture-perfect and captured events and moments vividly. She was chosen to be nearer to the Prophet in order to guide the people of Islam on the ways, manners and personal beliefs of the Prophet. These hadiths indeed set a whole new standards on how Muslims should behave if they wanted to follow the life of the Prophet of Islam as a model. After all, there is credence in respecting the traditions of the Prophet since the holy book of Islam was revealed through the Prophet himself and not thanks to some e-mails or books written by some popular writers. There is enough proof evidence that Al-Bukhary, the compiler and writer of the hadiths of Bukhary was a living person. His reference book as well as the original book he wrote is still to be found in Russia, where even the communist revolution did not cause harm to these treasures of Islam. The communist regime that ruled Moscow for 75 years had the insight to safeguard the evidence that Al-Bukhary existed and compiled the hadiths and wrote them in the collections that are still in use today. Denying or repeatedly questioning his faith and his work is part of what the Al-Quraan would call rebellion against the Prophet. Al-Bukhari's coming and his compiling of the Hadiths was even mentioned by the Holy Prophet. Only the dirty western minds will relate the hadiths that foretells his coming to a sick joke. The truth speaks for itself. I am just a writer with strong beliefs in what I see and hear. I read the Hadiths and found many wonderful things inside them. I heard the old folks talking of the Hadiths and relating them to the Al-Quraan and it was only wonderful to hear such things. Going against the traditions of the Prophet of Islam would equal to becoming Deist (believers in God alone), which is one step nearer to the atheists. This is probably where the anti-hadith movement will be heading in their intransigeant and definitely anti-freedom of expression ways of dealing with the believers of the traditions of Islam and of the prophet of Islam.

Okay! We know about the movement. But how significant is this number? I\'m quite confused by the Hadiths myself.

Nice to comment. Good question. We do not have a concrete idea of the membership of this movement. We just met some in the past and this helps us understand their doings.
Hadiths will not be confusing if we make attempts to learn the hadiths with the help of Alims (learned Muslims). Thanks written by matomyam, January 07, 2007
\"While the true believers will be happy with the QURAN ALONE and the assurance of God in the Quran, the others will try to find an escape in the books that were never authorized by God, the books of Hadiths and Suuna\"

A gold mania could happen.
Here's why... Gold manias begin when investors flee real estate, currencies, bonds, and stocks because their prospects are so bleak. We're close to that right now.
