BN supporters vents anger in Internet forums PDF Print E-mail

Government supporters vented their fury on Internet forums by posting angry messages at the Barisan National (BN) and targeting the Prime Minister of Malaysia Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Mykmu Net, a popular Web site for ruling party members, published comments by readers who said they “hope (Abdullah) will be quickly ousted” and that Abdullah’s “resignation will be the only way out,” reported Bernama.com.

Abdullah has repeatedly resisted calls to resign immediately after the March elections, though he has pledged to hand power to his deputy, Najib Razak, by mid-2010 in a protracted transition plan publicly endorsed by most top government officials.

The PM has said that people should not see the Permatang Pauh by-election thrashing by Anwar Ibrahim’s Pakatan Rakyat (PR) as a trend that may happen nationwide. It is perhaps a miscalculation of the events by the PM since at least 2 top Umno elites said the results indicated otherwise.

Tungku Razaleigh Hamza who is challenging the PM’s post and International Trade Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said the loss should not be taken lightly and that a strong message has been sent to the Umno for change.

“Our fear is that this may become a trend,” the Minister Yassin was quoted as saying by national news agency Bernama.

He said BN and Umno should conduct a post-mortem and take steps to speed up Umno's reinventing process as well as measures to rebrand the BN with new approach more acceptable to the people.

According to him, this would require the BN and Umno to re-evaluate whether their approach to campaign was already "stale and no longer acceptable to the people."

"It is clear that we need to make swift changes to the organisation and to the way we do things," he said.

Muhyiddin added that the results also showed that the voters' mindset had shifted and that they now wanted something which "are fairer, not racial-based (politics) but one that is based on the profile of the multiracial and multi-religious Malaysians."

"Umno should be prepared to make the change," he said.

Muhyiddin said, however, that Anwar's victory was something to be expected and accepted as it was the wishes of the people, who made their choice under a democratic process.

"It may be that whatever is said about Anwar, the people and voters just refuse to believe it.

"The explanation given by our leaders was not accepted as though it was already decided from the outset that the BN would lose and PKR would win," he said. Razaleigh was quoted as saying the Umno is facing extinction if the Permatang Pauh trend was a national one. He added that it is the Umno that was sunken in the by-elections.

In 2007 after the Ijok by-elections, WorldFutures predicted that Anwar Ibrahim will sink the Umno and once again, our predictions came true.

After oil, a gold mania

A gold mania could happen.

Here's why... Gold manias begin when investors flee real estate, currencies, bonds, and stocks because their prospects are so bleak. We're close to that right now.

A WF EXCLUSIVE: It is the Occupation, stupid
The writer is a former Secretary Interior. This is an exclusive article for WorldFutures. Pakistan: Nov 2008 =

US President-elect in his victory speech bracketed financial crisis with the two wars to define crucial challenges calling for immediate action on his part. This reflects his sagacity which manifests his worldview etc. It is an open secret that while Iraq is comparatively quiet, thanks to Gen Petraeus’ initiatives, Afghanistan has become a quagmire for US. The current Administration, which exploited the fear-complex provoked by 9/11, remains bogged down. While maintaining hostile posturing and invoking EU’ bigger deployment of troops, the increasing casualties appear to have brought in the Saudi King to ingratiate the Taliban.

MiddleEast Conflict
US Antiballistic missile in Israel a world threat
The real threat is what motivated the US to install such systems in Israel. Does it intend to use Israel as stepping stone to launch 'conquests' in the Middle East and prevent the future natural 'democratic' processes from operating, such as in Palestine where the Hamas won an elections but was 'ousted' in a US sponsored and Israeli supported Coup?

Image Analysis: The War in Afghanistan and Pakistan
History also bears out that the Afghans can’t tolerate ‘occupation’. No wonder since 2006 the Taliban have been on the rampage. Even Kabul remains tentatively safe. During my last visit home to Peshawar, I was met by a few Afghans who told me of the reign of terror prevailing in Jalalabad, Paktia and Kabul etc as the state machinery/ foreign forces   could not cope with prevailing mayhem. The spill-over effect of Afghan ‘insurgency’ is   widely felt in Pakistan; more so in NWFP/ Baluchistan. History and geography combine to create challenges which the elected Govt and its armed forces have to face daily.

American and Pakistani intelligence agencies confirmed that she had been arrested in connection with Al-Qaeda, the terrorist organisation run by Osama Bin Laden. However, later both agencies denied that she had been arrested. Dr. Afia's whereabouts remain unknown but it is suspected that she is being held in an American detention centre.
