March 91: The Slaughtering of a retreating army
![]() Iraqis are reduced to pleading to US mercenaries Many of us have either forgotten the first US war against Iraq. It is known as the first Gulf War and code named ‘Desert Storm’. Many do not recall what exactly happened that lead to the war in 1991 and why Iraq was destroyed that easily in 2003. The Bush family, George H. Bush was the President of the US in 1991 and his son G.W. Bush is the current President. They destroyed Iraq and they killed hundreds of thousands of the Iraqi people. In 1991 a horror was being played on the eve of the end of the Gulf War. The story below tells of this horror. Believe it or not one will have tears when reading it. By Felicity Arbuthnot

At least 'fifteen hundred tanks, armoured vehicles, jeeps, water and fuel
tankers, ambulances, firetrucks, tractor trailors, buses and civilian vehicles
and passenger cars ... some flying white flags' were 'pounded for hours' with
anti-personel bombs 'and finally finished off with devastating B52 bombing
runs'. It is thought that thousands were crushed, or incinerated in their
vehicles. Windscreens and humanity melted. As the William Tell overture and the
Lone Ranger theme, blasted out on the USS Ranger, 'planes reloaded and
reloaded, returning to hit the convoy again and again, dropping everything from
cluster bombs to five hundred pound bombs 'like sharks in a feeding frenzy'.

We publish this opinion article from the Monday Morning newspaper published in Beirut, Lebanon. Article is written by Gwynne Dyer.
Very few people in Jakarta commented on the 'rising' sentiments towards the bombers but deep inside many think the bombers – especially Imam Samudra – went to the extent of bombing Bali due to their rigid beliefs regarding 'Maksyat' or illicit life styles.

| From Hamas to Kenya, roughing up democracy |

The American constitution, the basis of democracy in the USA is indeed a good example of how a democratic system can be hijacked by a group of people with an evil agenda. Democracy is violated in Kenya too where Kenya's opposition movement, which is challenging the election in December that Kenya's president, Mwai Kibaki, narrowly won. In Palestine, the legitimate government is now being suffocated...What democracy is it?
